NEW YORK/SEVILLE—OCT. 30, 2019—MTV will honor megastar Liam Gallagher with the first-ever “Rock Icon” award at the “2019 MTV EMAs,” which will broadcast live on Sunday, November 3rd from FIBES Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville, Spain.

To mark the milestone occasion, Gallagher will perform a hit song from his days with Oasis as well as one from his recent critically-acclaimed solo album, “Why Me? Why Not.”

“There’s no question that Liam Gallagher is one of the world’s most successful, influential and colorful rock artists of our time,” said Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International. “The rich musical history that we have with Liam, both with his former band, Oasis and as a solo artist, has inspired us to create the first-ever ‘Rock Icon’ award. It is without a doubt that he’s left an indelible mark on the rock scene and still delivers songs that will continue to shape generations to come.”

The most iconic frontman of his generation and the voice of a catalogue of era-defining hits with Oasis, Liam Gallagher made the comeback of the year with his 2017 solo album As You Were. It shot to the top of the UK charts with more than 100,000 first week sales and maintained a Top 40 position for over six months. In the months that followed, Gallagher garnered numerous prestigious accolades around the world including “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star of the Year” at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards, the “Godlike Genius Award” at the NME Awards, the “Icon Award” and “Best Live Act” at the Q Awards. In The US, Vogue Magazine just claimed Gallagher as, “Arguably the greatest rock-and-roll singer in a generation.” Gallagher has just released his second album Why Me? Why Not., to rapturous acclaim securing another #1 debut in the UK. Rolling Stone Magazine exclaimed, “A great new album – Why Me? Why Not., checks all the boxes.” Currently on a world tour, including dates stateside supporting The Who and two 20,000 capacity shows at The O2 in London, Liam Gallagher will return to the US to headline his own tour in 2020.
