RICHARD GODFREY BIO
Richard Godfrey is an Emmy Award Winning Producer who has been producing World Class events and TV shows for over 25 years.
As Executive Producer of the MTV Europe Music Awards from 1996 right up until the most recent edition in Seville, Godfrey is one of the key leaders of Europe’s biggest music awards ceremony. This prestigious show continues to impress in terms of the quality of the event and the calibre of its artists. Performers as diverse as Katy Perry, Dua Lipe, Camilla Cabello, Eminem, U2, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Jay Z and Beyonce have played at the show.
In his previous role as Senior Vice President, MTV Networks International (MTVNI) Content and Music, Richard Godfrey oversaw all programming and production shared by the all the MTV channels outside the US, including a daily entertainment news service, movie programming, documentaries, specials, programme development, all live music and special events.
In addition Godfrey has produced events and concerts all over the world with many of the world’s biggest music stars, including Gwen Stefani, Andrea Bocelli, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Garth Brooks, Green Day, Miley Cyrus, Muse, Coldplay and many more.
In September he was Executive Producer of Viacom’s first major production in the Middle East-Kids Choice Awards Abu Dhabi. In addition he recently won an Emmy as Co-Executive Producer for Joseph Gordon Levitt’s variety show Hit Record on TV and has been Executive Producer on the NBA Awards for Dick Clark Productions for TNT in the USA since 2016. He has been Creative Consultant for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for the last 3 years in Hollywood.
Godfrey started his broadcasting career in Radio with stints at LBC and Capital Radio in London before moving into television where credits include The Word and The Big Breakfast for Channel 4 UK.
Godfrey holds a BA (Hons) in History from Bristol University.
