Richard Godfrey has been Executive Producer of MTV’s most high profile international music awards show, the MTV EMAs, since 1996.
As Executive Producer, Godfrey leads one of the biggest music awards ceremonies in the world. Known as the ‘music Oscars’, this prestigious ceremony continues to set standards in terms of production quality and innovation and the calibre of artists who both appear and perform. Godfrey oversees all aspects of the show’s production, including its creative theme, as well as design, performance and logistics.
In 2016, Godfrey oversaw the 23rd EMA event hosted by Bebe Rexha at the Ahoy Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. This event saw artists such as Bruno Mars, One Republic and The Weeknd take the stage – and honoured late artist Prince.
In his previous role as Senior Vice President, MTV Networks International (MTVNI) Content and Music, Richard Godfrey oversaw all programming and production shared by all MTV channels outside the US, including a daily entertainment news service, movie programming, documentaries, specials, programme development, live music and special events.
In addition, Godfrey has produced events and concerts with many of the world’s biggest music stars, including U2, Alicia Keys, Green Day, Muse, Eminem and many more.
Godfrey started his broadcasting career in radio with stints at LBC and Capital before moving into television where credits include two of Channel 4’s signature shows from the 1990s, The Word and The Big Breakfast.
Godfrey holds a BA (Hons) in History from Bristol University.
